BACK and FORTH explores the need for people to remain connected with the past.
A candy wrapper may be kept in a wallet unintentionally, but will recall a pleasant evening shared with loved ones over the years.
A scarf may be carefully stored in a closet because it carries the precise scent of a family member's face lotion.
A greeting card may contain a ubiquitous birthday wish in the nostalgic handwriting of someone no longer close.
Such keepsakes were exhibited in dialogue with artworks, recordings, and journal entries contributed by the public. BACK and FORTH was curated by the 2017–2018 Art Honors Program at the University of Maryland, College Park.
